SteamPunk

This genre is intriguing.
I came across 2 shops in Exeter recently that stocked clothes inspired by steam punk...

Wonder if her name is Esme?

wonder who she is:

create daily

I seem to have a penchant for art books now- of the how to variety.
The drawing tutor suggested Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, which arrived via the library, then I noticed 2 more on the library shelf.
Note to self- pick up a pencil today and make some marks

Art every day

I intend to do art of some kind every day during November.

http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2016/10/art-every-day-month-sign-up.html

I began a drawing class on the 8th and have made marks daily since.

Today I drew and painted a duck for a birthday card.
and also drew my first ever Hamsa. The first 2 goes were not pleasing, but the 3rd one is OK...have not coloured it in as I plan to draw another one .

I can't upload any photos of my art, but here is a  Hamsa ...doubt mine will be so elaborate, but who knows.

Day 27-Favourite Scent

Sun's heat caresses the rose
Rose fragrance responds to the touch
Touch of the sun
Sun from the Source
Source flows motes of molten gold
Gold that frees the gifts of the rose
Rose in the garden
Garden of the heart

Day 26-Abandonment

Abandonment of self to Self

Times journey will demand that

Soon you put on that top shelf

Nothing that will make fat

Gifts to block the way of soul health

Sombre thoughts are old hat.

I had a go with

Harrisham Rhyme, created by the female poet, Harrisham Minhas, belonging to the State of Punjab in India, of a six-line rhyming stanza. In this form, the last alphabet of the first word of each line is the first alphabet of the first word of next line.

There is no restriction on the starting alphabet of the first line.

Rhyming scheme : ababab.

Day 25-Red

Give me a virtuous woman
For she is worth her weight in rubies.
How many rubies would I be then?
Would I fill up with cold red stones?
Would they spill out of my eyes my mouth my ears
Out onto the floor?
Spilling out like droplets of ice blood?
Piling high as I disappear
Into a virtuous  cloud of deep scarlet.

Watercolour Taster Day with Sarah Bell

I really enjoyed the Watercolour Taster Day in the Old Bakery Studios in Truro on Saturday. I arrived with enthusiasm but no knowledge or skill and left with even more enthusiasm plus knowledge plus some skills to practice with

The venue is very conducive to creativity, and easily accessible by foot or by car.
Sarah is a talented teacher and her enthusiasm shines through the well thought out and well structured day.
Her approach ensured that a newbie like me learned easily and others in the group who had eg 17 years experience also added to their knowledge.

I keep looking at my ‘Stormy’ painting and still can’t believe I actually painted it . I look forward to attending more of Sarah’s workshops in the near future..

Day 24 Fantastical

 Image result for Miss Peregrine's

Miss Peregrine's children are most bizarre
In that ancient school in Wales
That teenage boy with his wyrd dolls
Makes me hide away from their tales.

But secretly I am wanting more
Of all that's so odd and strange
Show me more, thrill me more
With your fantastical ogreous word's range.

Lento is the form I tried today.

A Lento consists of two quatrains with a fixed rhyme scheme of abcb, defe as the second and forth lines of each stanza must rhyme. To take it a step further, but not required, try rhyming the first and third lines as well as the second and forth lines of each stanza in this rhyming pattern: abab, cdcd. The fun part of this poem is thrown in here as all the FIRST words of each verse should rhyme. There is no fixed syllable structure to the Lento, but keeping a good, flowing rhythm is recommended.

day 18 -senseless

Senseless-sense less
Ribhu Gita makes senses the enemy
Makes no sense to me
That lives with and through the senses
And yet befriending begets accepting
Sight sound touch smell
That keeps me bonded, bound to this place
Yet fear of loss
loss of sight- see within
loss of sound- Voice of the Silence
Touch Divinity only if senseless- surrendering all
No alcohol requires

day 14-shameful

Shame calibrates low on the map of consciousness
For what reason would I visit
The darkness and stench of low vibrations
Used to control and manipulate?

If shameful were a smell- rotten eggs
if shameful were a sight? a tattered beggar
not me..no not me- begging and stinking in a stink of shame...
bring me  roses, bring me the air..of Self, of Freedom, of Peace

day 13-Flowing

Enter Nabucco
Full of pride
See the slaves under the yoke
Hear the voices flowing in unison
Crescendo the notes
Freedom beckons
Nabucco's pride vanquished
Voices low.

Thursday, 13 October 2016

day twelve- strong

Stagnant chi- energy no
Strong chi- energy flow

Stagnant chi- creativity halts
Strong chi and she jumps with volts.

Stagnant chi- what's the point?
The point of the needle- strong chi - life's back- needlepoint!

day eleven-Lively

You better lively up yourself, sang Bob,
This is what I thought
When she danced her lively dance
And her older husband caught
Her in his dusty line of sight
Never dreaming
She would dance out of his life.

Monday, 10 October 2016

day ten-unfolded

It is all scripted
so what about choice?
It is all scripted,
so what about will?
it is all scripted
so what about evil?
it is all scripted
so what about love?

Looking back
it all unfolded
looking ahead
what will unfold
looking back through the shadows
looking forward to the sun.

day 9-spiral

Arunachala, mighty mountain
They spiral around you through the years.
Holy mountain, sacred earth
Dissovles the blisters on the soul.
Deep inside find Shiva Fire
Spiral through incarnations
Touching back to Source
Reminding you to turn within

day 8-Porous

The human body, porous to liquid light's downflow
From the Heavens.
DNA's secrets unlocked by liquid light's downflow
From the Source.
Source of liquid light, course of open flow.
Porous bones absorb the light,
Absorb the light's open flow.
Bones to dust, the costume of uninhabited skin
Fallen to earth.
River of light seems into the porous earth,
Pulled in , pulled down, gobbled up by that
Insatiable sharp blackness
Porous to the light
Tar melts, light-filled diamonds.

day 7

I wrote a poem at my writers group today.
Yellowing was one of the prompts.
I did not write anything on 'tasty'

The book lies on the dusty desk, pages yellowing,
yellowing through time,
time that captured the author's thoughts, once bright,
bright in the mind, inspired onto the page and now,
now held on the coarse paper , brown spidery ink
ink that held the moment, the inspiration,
inspiration on that page, can you hear the scratching
scratching of the author's pen did she know
know that the words from her heart-mind would travel
travel through time, be held in this dust.
Dust motes floated, dust motes settled
Settled as her words on this page of verse
Verse to capture , verse to encapsulate
Encapsulate emotions to tickle the nostrils to sneeze.
Sneeze echoes across time, explodes the writing awake.
Awake across garlands of minutes, days, years.
Years of pens, years of words, years of the abstract
Abstract musings in the caverns of the heart
Heart recognition across time.

day 6- tantalising

I liked the look of a Looping poem on someone else's poetry blog....did not know that was the name of the form, until yesterday.

They walk along the promenade these young surfers
Surfers who love the waves
Waves to be met and mounted
Mounted with strength and abandon
Abandon the social proramming
Programming that will remove their vigour
Vigour that is so tantalising with unzipped wetsuits open to the waist
Waist that invites the touch and unzip
Unzip to the embrace of the post waves sunshine
Sunshine of the promenading youth.

Day 5-Sharp

Sharp.

Set myself a bit of a challenge here , wondering if an effort will be made.
'Sharp' has  many associations but does not inspire the inner poet.

The tang of lemon,
the trouser crease,
the sword edge,
acerbic wit,
a mind alert,
unsugared rhubarb,
a bend in the road that needs focused attention,
a retort,
a musical term.
did I once know a Graham Sharpe?
The point of a pencil.

Well, I gave it a go.
It felt more like an old fashioned English lesson, some homework to do..

and here it is.

The sword is sharp, it has to be just so
The pointing out of obstacles that block
The soul's blossoming now, not tomorrow.
Blackbird's song at dawn before the old clock
Strikes like a scimitar to scare the crow
That flees the brambles of mind's cruel mock.
Morn brakes, soul shakes free to shine free to gleam,
Floats on everlasting cerulean stream.

Ottava Rima

...so on and so on

day 3 sparkling

2  pieces of poetry today.

The 1st is my first ever experiment with diamante form.of which I knew nothing until October 2nd 2016

the 2nd is free flowing, stream of consciousness which is how they usually emerge.

The plan is to learn something about the form of poetry this month as well as playing with words flowing..

Here's the theory.

Line 1: Noun or subject
Line 2: Two Adjectives describing the first noun/subject
Line 3: Three -ing words describing the first noun/subject
Line 4: Four words: two about the first noun/subject, two about the antonym/synonym
Line 5: Three -ing words about the antonym/synonym
Line 6: Two adjectives describing the antonym/synonym
Line 7: Antonym/synonym for the subject.

Here's my sparkling diamante.

Sunlight
Hot,bright,
Sparkling,dancing,glancing,
Fiery,, intense, awake, golden,
Forgiving, emerging,empinkening,
Rosy, glowful
Dawn.

and here is my stream of consciousness.

Sparkling
Light drops delicately on the slow moving stream.
Sparkling, dancing
Sprites alight lightly on the holding meniscus.
Who sees their footprints?
Who hears their laughter?
You think its just sparkling on the water.

Day 2 The Void

Void approaches.
Step towards it, step away.
Void approaches.
There's no avoiding it.
This lifetime.
Next lifetime.
Some lifetime.
Void approaches, stealth like a silent avalanche's promise.
There's nothing for it but to step
Forward , into it.
Step, fall, bottomless falling
.
Then a hand.
A gentle land.
Expansion but no breath here.
Drop the bones, drop the heart beat in a heart beat.
Yet vitesse, vitality abounds despite the void.

Day 1- Time

Time wavering, waverly- waving goodbye to the moments- looking back- they speed away, looking forward I crash into the wave coming towards me.
Feather jump lightly over the moments, alight outside of Time...and I laugh

Poetry in October

Another prompt to write poetry today, when I noticed the October Poetry writing fest.
I do  hope this initial spark is still then next month, and that I actually do allow poetry to flow.
Watch this space.

I facilitate a writers group on Oct 7th and plan to write poetic responses to the prompts I take in that morning.

Artistic musing

signed up  for a 30 day sharing of the life of an artist.
I took the opportunity to add this blog to the blogroll.
I wonder if I will add more as a result of that.

There is an idea for a short story about a temple dancer.

 Gates of a Balinese temple

It came from something I read in Big Magic.

I wonder if I should set an intention to write that story in May?

To open the gates to inspiration and story telling.

OK- declaration of intention...a short story about a temple dancer will appear here by the end of the month.
Encouragement of big magic welcomed.

a morning painting

Only a part of me showing on this photo..on the right - just my hands and a paintbrush showing...keeping the photo visible as a reminder of the step I took to show up and experiment.

The swirls looked a bit like a Charles Rennie McIntosh rose
